Xiaomi has updated the Redmi 7 with a larger screen, bringing it closer in size to the Redmi Note 7. From the front, you would be hard-pressed to find differences between the two devices. The Xiaomi Redmi 7 now boasts an almost-inch larger display with a waterdrop notch design. This Refurbished Xiaomi Redmi 7 is an all-plastic phone, unlike the Redmi Note lineup. It’s evident that corners were cut to hit its price point, as buttons and frames feel plasticky. The fit and finish are just about satisfactory, but there are issues with panel gaps along the side of the device and a sharp ridge along one side. Using the rear fingerprint reader on the OnePlus 5 is a breeze. It consistently and quickly recognizes my fingerprint and unlocks the phone. The edges around the mid-frame feel rough to the touch, which I suspect is due to production hardware or streamlining production lines. The Redmi 7 is well built, except for the sharp edges and panel gaps. The volume and power buttons are tactile enough, and it feels solid in hand despite some minor wobbles. There’s a micro-USB port at the bottom edge. The Nexus 4 has a single speaker on the back, but it is pretty loud. There is little to no bottom end, but music doesn’t crackle even when the volume is cranked up to the max. The new color gradients, especially the candy-apple-to-black fade, look absolutely fantastic, but holding the phone reveals it’s less than stellar quality. The back feels sticky and it attracts a lot of fingerprints. Xiaomi has clarified that the new glossy coating is going to be more susceptible to scratches too. The Redmi Note 7 Pro’s design doesn’t seem to be a huge leap from the Redmi Note 6 Pro. I would have liked to see better material choices in the back cover, though.
